Anne Hathaway was inducted as a Disney Legend on Sunday at the close of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, an honor that arrived in the same year her three film releases pushed her combined 2026 box office past $2 billion worldwide.

The ceremony, held at the Honda Center in Anaheim and hosted by Ryan Seacrest, recognized 11 honorees this year, including former Disney CEO Bob Iger, Dwayne Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Chris Berman, Jerry Bruckheimer, Susan Egan, Eric Goldberg, Kim Irvine and Alan Tudyk. The induction brings the total number of Disney Legends to 329 since the honor was created in 1987, according to The Walt Disney Company.

Hathaway, whose Disney credits stretch back to "The Princess Diaries" in 2001 and include the "Alice in Wonderland" films, received her honor with a presentation from "The Devil Wears Prada 2" director David Frankel and a video tribute from Anna Wintour. "As cool as all this is, just us being us is where I'm happiest," Hathaway said of her family, according to ABC News.

A milestone year

The induction lands amid Hathaway's biggest box-office year to date. "The Odyssey" has grossed more than $1.29 billion worldwide, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" has taken in $676 million to push its franchise past $1 billion total, and "Mother Mary" added a further $3 million — together carrying Hathaway's 2026 releases past the $2 billion mark, according to Variety.

The three-day D23 event also included a surprise appearance from Hathaway at Friday's Disney Entertainment Showcase, where she confirmed that "Princess Diaries 3" is in active development and will continue the story from 2004's sequel rather than reboot the franchise.

With "The Odyssey" still awaiting release in several major markets, including China, Japan and South Korea, Hathaway's 2026 total is likely to keep climbing — and Disney is expected to lean further into her renewed franchise value as "Princess Diaries 3" moves through production.
