Tom Morello has announced his first true solo rock album, "Everyone Gets Everything They Want," due Sept. 25 on Mom + Pop Music. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist shared the news alongside a new single, "Date Night," which tells the true story of Dutch resistance fighters who sabotaged and assassinated Nazi occupiers during World War II.

The 12-track record features guest turns from System of a Down's Serj Tankian, Irish rap trio Kneecap, and metalcore band Beartooth, along with five tracks co-written by Morello's son, Roman Morello. The lineup places the album squarely inside Morello's long-running practice of pairing his guitar work with musicians known for overtly political material.

Morello was direct about the album's intent in comments shared around the announcement, framing the songs as a continuation rather than a departure from his decades of protest music with Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and the Nightwatchman.

I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis.

"Date Night," the album's lead single, dramatizes the exploits of sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen and their collaborator Hannie Schaft, who used their youth and gender to move past Nazi checkpoints undetected while smuggling weapons, ferrying Jewish children to safety and carrying out targeted killings of German officers and collaborators in the Netherlands, according to Blabbermouth's report on the announcement.

A name change, not a new persona

The record marks a shift in billing rather than in substance: Morello has released solo material before under the Nightwatchman name and through his Atlas Underground project, but "Everyone Gets Everything They Want" is being presented as his first album under his own name in a straightforward rock format, without an alter ego or a rotating cast of EDM-adjacent collaborators built around a single sonic concept.

Ahead of the LP, Morello had already been teasing new material for weeks, including a collaboration with Kneecap that he has separately described as coming from "the Rage Against the Machine of now" — a nod to the Belfast group's own history of court battles and boycott threats over its politics.

"Everyone Gets Everything They Want" is available for preorder now, including through Morello's Bandcamp page, with the full album streaming everywhere on Sept. 25.
