A home security camera in southeast London caught an unexpected dinner guest this week: a neighborhood cat that slipped through an open door, trotted straight to the kitchen, and helped itself to the family dog's food before fleeing a furious chase.
Homeowner Myron Wallace, 40, told UPI that he and his family were upstairs and had no idea anything was wrong until they heard their dog, Rosie, barking downstairs. Checking the footage from their Ring camera, they watched the scene play out in real time: a cat padding confidently into the house, finding Rosie's bowl, and digging in.
Rosie did not take kindly to the intrusion. According to the caption on the clip, posted online by Ring UK & Ireland, the dog "launched into full guard-dog mode, barking and chasing the startled cat out in a flash."
Wallace said the cat is a familiar face around the neighborhood but had never been bold enough to actually enter the house before. It isn't the first time an opportunistic feline has turned up uninvited, either: during a renovation project, Wallace said, workers found a different orange cat inside and assumed it was a resident pet — until it bolted at the sight of Wallace and Rosie.
The clip is the latest in a steady stream of viral doorbell- and security-camera footage that has turned ordinary households into unwitting broadcasters of neighborhood wildlife drama, from raccoons raiding bins to foxes napping on porches. For Wallace's household, the lesson was simpler: keep the back door shut, and keep Rosie's bowl out of reach.
No injuries were reported in the standoff, feline or canine. The footage has since circulated widely after Ring shared it online, giving the unnamed cat a brief, if unwanted, moment of local fame.
